Individualized and Intensive Academic Programs

We focus on helping exceptional children to acquire academic skills, social interaction abilities, functional communication, language skills, and appropriate behaviour functioning based on each child’s motivation and readiness. For this reason, each and every program is different in order to ensure that each student’s individualized needs are met.

Early Intervention

For Children with Down Syndrome & Cerebral Palsy

Addressing developmental delays as early as possible can make a profound difference in a child’s life. We provide support to children from age 5 – 12. A child may be eligible for services if he or she has a developmental delay. This could mean that he or she is not saying many or any words; not sitting, crawling, or walking when expected; has a diagnosed disability such as Down Syndrome or Cerebral Palsy; and/or lives in an environment that would put him or her at risk for developing delays.

Functional Academic Skills

Academic programs at Place of Liberty blends diverse methodologies with adapted curriculum targeting literacy, science, maths and social studies.

Physiotherapy

The physiotherapy department develops and provides universally designed and developmentally appropriate motor programs for all children

Speech & Language Therapy

Speech and language programs at Place of Liberty are designed with a central goal – functional communication in all academic and social environments.

Daily Living Skills

Children at Place of Liberty participate in daily living and social skills training with peers in small group environments. We utilize a variety of techniques and curriculums to facilitate age-appropriate peer interactions between students while playing with toys, games, during mealtime, cooking, morning meeting and extracurricular activities.

Home Economics/Cookery

Home economics at Place of Liberty aims to develop their interest in domestic activities such as cooking, sewing, cleaning, etc., and improve their ability to sustain effort and stay on a task.

Vocational Training

At Place of Liberty, we prepare children for independent living and life outside of school. As they get older, vocational skill training becomes an integral part of their school day.

Community Integration

Children with down syndrome and cerebral palsy can benefit greatly from appropriate services throughout their lifespan. Coordinated services and support can help them build happy, productive lives in their communities.
